In the fall I heard about this class but at the time the class was only offered to sophomores. Immediately I knew I wanted to join the class so I asked the instructor if during the next round of design lab they could open the class to both sophomores and juniors. Our first day of class had us establish what social justice was and what oppression looks like in the world. After exploring what social justice means and looks like, we were told to pick one social justice issue that we'd be focusing on for the rest of the session. As someone who has done many social justice projects before I knew going into this that I wanted to focus on the environment. Without a healthy environment there would be nothing. Through out the class we took different field trips to get inspiration from other artists for our final piece. The second week of class Ashley Fong and I started drafting paintings we could potentially paint. After going through 12 different pieces we decided on our final 3 that we would watercolor. Another piece of our project was to write up an artist statement to get our message across. At the end of the design lab Ashley and I found a space in our school's hallway to hang our artwork so that the rest of the school could get the message we were trying to portray.
